The USAID Partnerships for Enhanced Engagement in Research (PEER) program invites you to a virtual seminar with PEER researcher Dr. Hassan Ait Benhassou at the  Moroccan Foundation for Advanced Science Innovation and Research (MAScIR), in partnership with Université Mohammed V. He will be joined by US-based partner Dr. Adithya Cattamanchi from the University of California, San Francisco.

Dr. Ait Benhassou will discuss the performance of a new rapid test for detecting tuberculosis (TB) in patients that his research team developed, called SS-LAMP (Single Step Loop Mediated Isothermal Amplification). TB is one of the deadliest infectious diseases worldwide. Each year, about 1% of the world population is newly infected by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, about 9 million people develop tuberculosis disease and approximately 2 million die.

In 2022, the PEER program marks its 11th year of funding science around the world leading to better science capacity and significant policy change in many countries. PEER has supported over 400 scientists in 57 countries.
